Our Favorite Sporty Redheads

While every athlete strives for gold, this month holds particular significance for some. Athletes with red hair often face additional expectations in March, as they navigate the challenges of performing at their best while embracing the unique qualities that set them apart. In honor of St Patricks Day, here are some ginger athletes making waves in their sports.

Aimee Pratt

This gifted redhead makes her run to the gold via the 3000-meter steeplechase. After her incredible performances representing Great Britain, she joined the prestigious On Athletic Club Europe in 2023. This past summer she placed 26th at Paris in the 2024 Olympics. As she continues to run for her gold, we will continue to cheer her on!

Freya Anderson

Another glowing British redhead by the name of Freya makes her way on this red-headed roster. Instead of chasing the gold on land, she prefers to wade through water. With an early swimming career, by 15 she secured the gold in the 100m at the British Swimming Championships, and in the Tokyo Olympics earned herself and team a gold in the Mixed 4 x 100m Medley Relay.

Danielle Hill

This Olympic swimmer is another good redhead. Danielle competed this past summer in Paris and placed 16th and 21st in her solo events, the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle, representing Ireland. She is a part of Larne Swimming Club. This lovely Irish queen is an inspiring watch.

Víctor Muñoz Villanueva

Our wild card from Spain is a fireheaded forward proving redheads can be found everywhere. Victor is an agile Real Madrid Castilla footballer known for his incredible speed and goal-scoring ability. We can assume his intentions for scoring the goals come from both a team victory and the personal glory of gold. We can all agree he knows his way on the pitch.

Fletcher Newell

Fletcher, our largest redhead, at over 6 feet tall and 266 pounds, rises from New Zealand and plays for the All Blacks rugby team. Playing tighthead prop he is essential in both set pieces and open play. Similarly, leprechauns are double-sided too—in more devious ways, of course. As his career progresses he continues to aim for the gold, and if this giant redhead has shown anything from his matches we know he’ll be able to get it.

Jannik Skinner

Our next high-level redhead is an intelligent Italian on the court. Known for his sweeping baseline plays and mental fortitude, he captured his first ATP title at the Sofia Open, becoming the youngest Italian to win an ATP tournament. Recently he showed his gold winning abilities at the 2024 Australian Open when he made more gold standards: becoming the first Italian to win the tournament, and the youngest male since Novak Djokovic’s 2008 win.

These good-at-their-sports-redheads are continually hunting for more of the gold within their sports careers, and we love to watch them. While they hustle for the next pot o’ gold medals we can settle back with a pint o’ Guinness.
