Farewell February: A Recap of the Month’s Most Sportsish Moments
Although it’s the shortest month of the year, this February has brought plenty of remarkable sports moments. From one of the most monumental trades in NBA history to athletes becoming Women of the Year, let’s look back at some of this month’s best Sportsish stories before it comes to a close.
Luka Traded To The Lakers

February came in hot in the sports news realm with the mind-blowing headline that the Dallas Mavericks were trading Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers and acquiring Anthony Davis in a three-team deal. Fans everywhere woke up in shock upon learning one of the best players in the league, who had just led his team to the NBA finals, was leaving that same team and the fans that adored him. As we said on our Insta, it’s like trading “All Too Well (Ten Minute Version)” for the original “All Too Well” - both slaps, but ATWTMV is a little newer and slaps so much harder.
A’ja Wilson & Caitlin Clark Jersey Retirement
2/2 was a special day not just in the world of women’s basketball, but in the sports world as a whole. Current WNBA superstars and college basketball standouts A’ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark had their No. 22 jerseys retired during touching ceremonies held at their respective college home courts. Highlights included Iowa getting its biggest victory of the season up until then over the No. 4 USC, A’ja Wilson hard launching her relationship with Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo during her speech, and Nike paying its respects to the incredible athletes by changing their profile picture to the number 22, with one 2 in Gamecock garnet and the other in Hawkeye gold.
Saquon Barkley & Anna Congdon Engagement

As if the Philadelphia Eagles running back didn’t have enough to celebrate by helping his team win the NFC championship and punch their ticket to the Super Bowl, Saquon Barkley announced he and his long-time girlfriend Anna Congdon's engagement at the beginning of the month. The college sweethearts first met in 2016 at Penn State and have since had two precious children together. This month has been full of exciting new chapters for the family of four, and we wish them all the best as they head into the offseason.
Josh Allen Named NFL MVP

While Josh Allen has always been a winner in our eyes, we were thrilled to see him recognized for his leadership and hard work at the NFL Honors. As the Buffalo Bills’ quarterback, Josh led his team to a 13-4 record and an AFC Championship game title, scoring 41 touchdowns and only throwing 6 interceptions. His acceptance speech left us all a little teary as he showed his appreciation and gratitude for everyone from his parents all the way to Slick Rick in the mailroom. Making the night even more special for fans like us was getting to see the Queen of Buffalo, aka his fiancée Hailee Steinfeld, absolutely glowing as she supported him on his big night.
Kendrick Lamar Concert ft. an Eagles Blowout Win and Girlboss Nike Commercial
Super Bowl LIX was one of this month’s highlights, and it’s hard to pick our favorite part. Was it the Serena Williams crip walk cameo while Kendrick sang “Not Like Us” during the halftime show? Or Nike’s first Super Bowl commercial in 27 years about female empowerment? Or the Philadelphia Eagles avenging their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs two years ago with a dominant 40-22 win, complete with a Jalen Hurts x Bry Burrows celebratory kiss? No matter what moment had you cheering the most, this Super Bowl has been living in our heads for the rest of the month.
4 Nations Face-Off

The international hockey tournament wrote the date February 20th, 2025, into the history books as the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game between Canada and the USA became the most viewed hockey game in ESPN history with an average of 9.3 million viewers. Our patriotic spirits reached new heights as we watched the nations battle it out, inviting us into games fueled by competitive attitudes, history, and pride. The captivating tournament concluded with a 3-2 victory for the Canadians in overtime. Some of the tournament’s top moments included the Tkachuk brothers both scoring two goals in their game against Finland, 3 fights within the first 9 seconds of the first Canada and USA matchup, and seeing Team USA hero Mike Eruzione in a #13 Johnny Gaudreau jersey to honor the late hockey legend at the tournament finale.
Napheesa Collier Wins Unrivaled 1v1 Tournament

The women’s basketball league Unrivaled continued to bring talent and entertainment to the sports world this month, especially with their 1-on-1 competition. Lunar Owls player Napheesa Collier beat Aaliyah Edwards for the crown and $200K, winning the biggest one-day prize in women’s basketball history. This win felt only fitting as Napheesa co-founded the groundbreaking league, and is made even better by the fact that she’s doing it all as a mom. To top it all off, she expressed her appreciation for the staff working alongside her to build the league by giving half of her winnings to her coaches and training and performance staff. We love to see strong women lift each other up.
The Boston Guard Win the Inaugural Women’s Lacrosse League Championship Series

February saw another meaningful win in the world of women’s sports as the Women’s Lacrosse League ushered in a new era for women’s professional lacrosse with the inaugural WLL Championship Series. Each of the four teams fought fiercely for the win in the round-robin style tournament, which ended with a 22-17 victory for the Boston Guard over the New York Charging. Beyond the chance it offers talented female athletes to continue playing the sport they love, the WLL is a powerful source of inspiration for the younger generations of girls beginning their journey in sports.

We probably would've given you a curious side-eye if you had told us at the beginning of the month that Kim Kardashian would be teaming up with Nike. Lo and behold, this duo is coming together to create NikeSKIMS, a new activewear brand “designed to sculpt and engineered to perform.” The two industry powerhouses announced that the brand’s first collection will debut this spring - we know what is on our list for our spring wardrobe revamp!

Our queens continue to receive recognition for their accomplishments and we are so here for it. WNBA baller A’ja Wilson and Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles are two of 13 honorees selected as Women of the Year for TIME. These women are described as extraordinary leaders who are “working toward a better, more equal world.” In addition to their success in their respective competitions, both athletes use their platforms to advocate for diversity and gender and racial equity, and we are proud to have them represent the sports world in this group of female groundbreakers.
PVF All-Star Match

Women’s sports continued to reach new heights throughout the month, including a historic first for women’s pro volleyball. The Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) hosted an inaugural All-Star match and made history as the first pro volleyball All-Star game to be broadcast nationally. The two teams of 12 stars played their hearts out on the court, ultimately resulting in a 58-47 win after 3 sets for Team Shondell over Team Collier. With a CBS national broadcast and a sold-out crowd, we hope to hopefully see some spikes in women’s pro volleyball attention!
