All Around the Sports World: A Sportsish Weekend Recap
Yet another week of sports is in the books. Take a look at some of the highlights from the last weekend in February, Sportsish style!
“Skate for LA Strong” Brings All the Stars
Since the fires in the Pacific Palisades and other areas of Los Angeles, charities have been rising up everywhere to help out any way they can. The NHL and Los Angeles Kings hosted a “Skate for LA Strong” charity game Sunday night, highlighting many NHL Hall of Famers, first responders, and it brought out some of our favorite faces. Did someone ask for a Ross Lynch x NHL crossover?
A few celebs who highlighted this event included Justin Bieber and Steve Carell, who participated in the game. However, even more recognizable faces were spotted on the sidelines as coaches, including Danny DeVito, Vince Vaughn, and Snoop Dogg. Such a star-studded event for such a good cause!
New York Yankees Lift Beard Ban
It is a good day to be a Yankees fan! In a recent overturn by Hal Steinbrenner, players of the New York Yankees are now allowed to support “well-groomed beards”. In 1970, Hal’s father, George Steinbrenner, was the owner of the Yankees and put a policy in place that did not allow players to have any facial hair aside from mustaches. But now we may get to see what Aaron Judge would look like with some scruff!
The Yankees may be one of the classiest teams in Major League Baseball, and this beard band might be why. However, we are sure saying bye to the ban is going to give us lots to look forward to this season!
NC State Takes Down Notre Dame
NC State Women’s Basketball (Griffin Bryant)
For the first time since 2021, the North Carolina State Wolfpack took down the No.1 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish! In a double overtime game, NC State’s women's basketball team, showed Notre Dame who was in charge–being ranked No. 13 didn’t stop this Wolfpack.
Closing out the game with a 104-95 finish, we have to keep an eye out for NC State, especially for our March Madness brackets!
Jaylen Brown Doesn’t Know His Celebs
In a video posted to ESPN’s Instagram page on Sunday, Boston Celtics player Jaylen Brown seriously failed a “Name that Artist” quiz. Unable to name popular artists such as Missy Elliot, Paul McCartney, and Chappell Roan, we are a little shocked at Jaylen’s lack of celebrity knowledge.
The best part of the whole video? The crowd's serious booing when Jaylen wasn’t able to name our queen, Sabrina Carpenter! It’s okay, though. The Celtics went on to beat the New York Knicks 118-105. It seems like Jaylen was working late. Maybe he should listen to Espresso?
