Super Bowl LIX: A Sportsish Checklist
Good morning football fans! The day we have waited for all season is finally here—the Kendrick Lamar and SZA concert…I mean the Super Bowl. As we all prepare for the big game tonight in New Orleans, let’s make sure we have everything we need.
Televised nationally on Fox and streaming on NFL+, Super Bowl coverage starts at 6:30 pm ET, and the anticipation is building. From possible celebrity sightings, commercials to look out for, and the halftime show of the century, it is time for a Sportsish Super Bowl checklist!
Celebs in the Stands
Similar to the MET Gala, the Super Bowl attracts a lot of famous faces! Celebrities from all over the country have flocked to previous Super Bowls to watch the action up close. Some notable names that we might spot in the stands today? Well, let’s take a look!
Philly Fans
A recent Instagram post from the NFL showed that Bradley Cooper, an avid Philly fan, had brought his cheesesteak food truck “Danny & Coop’s” down to New Orleans and surprised fans by cooking up some delicious sandwiches! Cooper has not been shy about his support for the Eagles, and we can expect to see him at the game.
Another popular name we could see today is comedian Kevin Hart. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Hart recently took to Instagram to announce he bought another bald eagle for a massive $16.5 million. The name, of course, is Saquon Barkley. Attending many Eagles’ games in the past, we doubt he would miss the game of the season!
KC Celebs
Of course, we can be sure that our girl Taylor Swift will be there cheering on her man…it wouldn’t be a Chiefs game without her there! Spotted around NOLA this week, Travis and Taylor made sure to spend some time together before his game day—they were even spotted leaving a restaurant surrounded by fans in a video from E! News. We are very much looking forward to what fit she pulls out today!
Ant-Man star Paul Rudd has never been one to shy away from his support of the Chiefs. Appearing at multiple games with his son, Jack, we can almost guarantee a sighting! Growing up in Kansas City, Rudd has been a lifelong Chiefs fan and couldn’t possibly miss this opportunity for a three-peat!
Lights, Camera, Action!
Alix Earle in Carl’s Jr commercial (CKE Restaurants)
Thanks to years and years of a televised Super Bowl, we have the pleasure to look forward to fantastic commercials every single year. Anyone remember the infamous Tubi commercial the last time these teams faced off? As to be expected, we are sure to see Doritos and Budweiser with their regular spots in the Super Bowl lineup, but we may have a new one to look forward to—Alix Earle in a Carl’s Jr ad!
Fox reported back in November that it had sold out of all of its ad spots, costing companies more than $8 million per commercial. Some ads have already been pre-released, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect during breaks in tonight's game. Some of those commercials already live include; Ray-Bans, Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, a star-studded Michelob Ultra ad, a wholesome Google ad, and a very iconic recreation of When Harry Met Sally, featuring Sydney Sweeney thanks to Hellmann’s.
A Kendrick Lamar and SZA Spectacular
Kendrick Lamar and SZA (Apple Music)
With news that completely shocked the sports and music world alike, SZA is joining Kendrick for the halftime show! With this duo going on tour, we are so looking forward to this preview. SZA recently released an album near the end of 2024 titled, SOS Deluxe: LANA and featured Kendrick on multiple songs. Similarly, Kendrick, who recently won two Grammys for his Drake-diss track “Not Like Us”, gave us a new album GNX with two songs featuring SZA. In the past, these two amazing songwriters have paired up on songs like “Doves in the Wind” and “Babylon”, and I think we can all assume this partnership will continue.
Us women here at Sportsish are really hoping this halftime show features some songs like: “Luther”, “All the Stars”, and “30 for 30”.
