A Sportsish Weekend Recap

A weekend without NFL playoffs allows us to explore different sports news from this past weekend. Let’s take a look at some of the happenings in the sports world from these last few days, in Sportsish style!

NFL 2025 Pro Bowl

While the Chiefs and Eagles prepare for their big game, the best players from the league faced off in Orlando this weekend for the Pro Bowl! This fun matchup features players from across the country, divided into their respective AFC and NFC conferences, providing viewers with a light-hearted break before the excitement of the Super Bowl. The Pro Bowl combines various skills challenges with an intense flag football game, offering players a relaxing and enjoyable way to conclude their NFL season.

Some notable highlights from this weekend's event include Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff winning the accuracy challenge during Thursday's skills tests with an impressive score of 44 points, and Joe Burrow looking as beautiful as ever. In a humorous video posted on ESPN's Instagram, Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is seen playfully stealing some stylish shades from Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

Speaking of Justin Jefferson, this Viking proved he is just as great as everyone says with impressive one-handed catches in the “Satisfying Catches” challenge. We love seeing these players enjoying their time together in a fun way!

Caitlin Clark’s Jersey Gets Retired

The WNBA took to Instagram to post a sweet video of Caitlin Clark’s college jersey, #22, being retired at Iowa University this past Sunday. Playing from 2020-2024, Caitlin made her mark on the school and the world of Women’s Basketball forever! With a staggering list of achievements, including becoming the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women’s basketball history and surpassing Pete Marovich’s scoring record, Caitlin is just one of the many women who have taken the world by absolute storm and brought the WNBA the attention it deserves!

The queen that she is! Producing another phenomenal floor routine, Jordan Chiles scored a perfect 10.00 on Sunday. Filled with her iconic dance moves and stuck landings, Jordan knows what it means to be a female powerhouse! Imagine having an Olympic champion compete for your school. How cool is that!

Saquon Barkley Gets Engaged

Sorry, ladies, but Eagles wide receiver Saquon Barkley is officially a fiancée, and love is in the air! In an interview with People Magazine, Barkley announced that he and long-time girlfriend Anna Congdon are engaged. Sharing two children, Jada, 6, and Saquon Jr., 2, the couple met back in 2017 during their time at Penn State. With an adorable family and a possible Super Bowl ring on the way, we cannot wait to see Saquon add a wedding ring too!

I’d be naive to think that I’ve made it and all the stuff that we are able to accomplish this year was all alone and by myself.

Luka Dončić is a Laker

Luka and LeBron (USA Today Sports)

In a massive trade with the Dallas Mavericks, Luka Dončić will now be playing in the iconic purple and yellow out in Los Angeles! Standing at 6’6”, this Slovenian point guard is now set to play next to the king, LeBron James himself. In this trade, the Mavericks have acquired All-NBA forward Anthony Davis; some may call this trade a “blockbuster.” While there is some dispute about whether this trade was worth it for the Dallas franchise, Luka is currently ineligible to make the team this season due to a calf strain. We are excited to see how Luka does on his new Laker team!

Isaac Rochell Retires

Taking to Instagram with a series of career photos, NFL defensive end Isaac Rochell announced his retirement from the league. Starting his football journey playing for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Isaac was a seventh-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, where he was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers.

In 2018, Rochell had his best season with 29 tackles and five sacks recorded. During his time with the Chargers, Isaac was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2020 and he displayed that very excellence! With a career filled with ups and downs as a free agent, Isaac played his last season in 2023 with the Las Vegas Raiders. Playing seven years in the league is a huge accomplishment as a seventh-round pick, and we are so very proud of him!

Isaac is married to social media personality Allison Kucharczyk, and the pair share a baby girl named Scottie, whom they welcomed back in December 2023. In a podcast titled Sunday Sports Club, Allison gave her listeners a look inside what it was like to be an NFL wife and all the challenges it can bring!

In a recent podcast episode, Allison invited our beautiful CEO, Lily Shimbashi, to discuss what it’s like to be a woman in the sports world! If you haven’t listened to it yet, you’re missing out. Listen here!
