The Sweetest Wimbledon Tradition

Perhaps the greatest tradition at Wimbledon is the strawberries and cream dish—the delicious and refreshing snack dates back to the 1500s and King Henry VIII. According to legend, the King's dear friend, Thomas Wolsey, introduced this delectable treat at the official royal tennis court, Hampton Court. With its vibrant red strawberries and luscious cream, this iconic dish has become synonymous with the prestigious tournament, evoking a sense of tradition and indulgence for players and spectators alike.

In 1877, the inaugural tournament was held, and the dessert became a tradition adored by fans. Hugh Lowe Farms, a local family farm, provides strawberries yearly, and Hindex Farms is the cream supplier, making the perfect topping for dessert. Over three tons of strawberries are planted and picked to be enjoyed at the tournament. Pickers enter the fields at 5:30 AM daily to ensure the highest quality strawberries are delivered to the courts. On average, 190,000 servings are consumed during the tournament. All attendees, including the Royal Family, enjoy this. The dish is the perfect way to beat the summer heat in an elegant, clean, and chic fashion!

Recreate this delectable dessert at home and share the joy with your friends by hosting a party. Don't forget to tag us in your photos as you savor this iconic treat!
