The Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston received the first and second highest number of fan votes
Ever wondered how the WNBA All-Star voting magic happens? Let’s break it down:
From June 13 to June 29, fans, players, and media members all got in on the action to help pick the 2024 All-Star lineup. Fan votes counted for a hefty 50% of the decision, while the other half was split between WNBA players and media pros.
But wait, this year had a twist! With the Olympics on the horizon, the league decided to shake things up. They pitted the top All-Star vote-getters against Team USA’s 5-on-5 Olympic roster before they head off to Paris. This meant a lot of the fan favorites were already heading to the Olympics, making them ineligible for the Team WNBA roster.
If a top vote-getter was already on Team USA, they were taken out of the running for Team WNBA. The top 10 vote-getters who weren’t on Team USA automatically snagged a spot on Team WNBA. This year, those lucky four were Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark, Dearica Hamby, and Arike Ogunbowale.
The story doesn’t end there! The next 36 highest vote-getters were placed into a pool. From this talent-packed pool, the league’s head coaches chose the remaining eight players to round out the Team WNBA roster.
The 2024 WNBA All-Star Game is set for Saturday, July 20. It will take place at 8:30 p.m. ET at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.
