Chiefs and Eagles Love Story:  What They Don’t Want You to Know

The Chiefs and Eagles are not friends. Going head-to-head this Sunday, they each have it out for each other, wanting to beat the other and capture the title of the 59th Super Bowl. However, deep within each team, their head coaches, Andy Reid and Nick Sirianni, have a soft side, all thanks to Tammy Reid and Brett Sirianni.

Andy and Tammy

Andy and Tammy's relationship can be described as groovy. They met in the 1970s while attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Tammy was studying physical education when she met defensive lineman Andy in a shared tennis class. Tammy was interested in Andy but grew frustrated because he wasn't asking her out.

He had this air about him—this confidence but he wouldn’t ask me out, and I’d never not had a guy that I wanted to ask me out not ask me out. So the second half of the semester, since it’s a half credit, we played badminton. We were playing after he had already beaten me at tennis and I’m like, ‘Well, I could beat you at racquetball.’

Shortly after they began dating, Andy was introduced to Tammy's LDS family and her faith. Andy converted after learning more about her religion and meeting with church missionaries.

On August 8, 1981, the couple married and had five children: Garrett, Britt, Crosby, Drew Ann, and Spencer. Because of Andy's coaching career, the children grew up all over the country and were born in different states.

Garrett was born in Utah in 1983 while the Reids lived there. At that time, Andy had just started his coaching career as an assistant for his alma mater. Two years later, Britt joined the family while Andy was coaching in San Francisco, although Britt was born in Los Angeles.

Crosby was born in 1997 in Philadelphia during Andy’s tenure as a coach for the Eagles. Drew Ann arrived two years later in Missouri while Andy was coaching the Chiefs. Finally, the couple completed their family with Spencer, born in Wisconsin, while Andy was with the Green Bay Packers.

Andy’s extensive coaching career took the family all over the country, but since 2013, he has been based in Kansas City with the Chiefs.

Throughout Andy’s coaching career, Tammy has been a steadfast supporter. She has also helped victims of domestic violence by collaborating with the Laurel House and has made significant contributions to her community by founding the Eagles Women's Association. Tammy is an avid philanthropist with an extraordinary talent for quilting, and her work has been displayed at the Missouri Quilt Museum.

Together, this pair has navigated both tragedies and triumphs, remaining united and strong through their love for one another. However, they are not the only Valentines to celebrate this Super Bowl.

Like Andy Reid, Nick began his coaching career at his alma mater, Mount Union. Before joining the Kansas City Chiefs, he spent two years coaching at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he gained valuable experience. While in Missouri with the Chiefs, Nick met Brett, a schoolteacher, at their shared apartment complex. Although Nick didn’t initially impress Brett, she eventually agreed to go on a date with him.

I didn’t remember him, but he remembered me. He was like, ‘I work with the Chiefs.’ I didn’t care at all.

After two years of dating, the couple got engaged and married in June 2013. Following their honeymoon, they moved to San Diego for Nick’s new position with the Chargers. Brett was hesitant about the move; not only did she love Nick, but she also had a deep attachment to Missouri, making the transition difficult for her.

I was from Missouri and had never moved out of Missouri. I hit reality and realized I’m in the most beautiful place ever, but it’s kind of difficult because he works all the time.

Although she was initially scared of being lonely in a new state, that fear quickly faded away when Jacob, their firstborn, arrived in 2015. Two years later, a baby girl named Taylor joined Brett's company! Shortly after, the family of four relocated to Indiana due to Nick’s new job with the Colts. While in Indiana, they grew into a family of five with the addition of Miles in 2020. However, they didn’t stay in Miles’ birth state for long; New Jersey became their new home as Nick began coaching for the Eagles. While Brett maintains a low profile on social media, she is frequently seen at Nick’s games with the kids, who often accompany their dad during press conferences.

Brett has demonstrated her unwavering support and love for Nick by stepping back from her career, taking care of the children while Nick worked long hours, and moving across the country for him. Missouri will always hold a special place for both Brett and Nick, and just like the Missouri River, their love for each other flows endlessly.

As the Chiefs and Eagles prepare to face off, both teams are trying to intimidate and prove their toughness to one another. However, they don’t want you to know their true secret: they are coached by two men who are crazy in love! Each team has its Achilles' heels—Tammy and Brett. Tune in on Sunday to see Tammy’s team compete against Brett’s team, and may the best team win!
