And Then There Were Four: A March Madness Weekend Recap

Well, it is officially the last day of March, and that means we have almost reached the end of what has seemed like a “madness” lacking March. With no crazy upsets or Cinderella stories, this NCAA season has been filled with the best of the best doing what they know–being the best. With the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight finishing this past weekend, let’s look at who is going into the Men’s and Women’s Final Four.

Women’s Final Four

South Carolina Gamecocks

“Who runs the world? Girls!” This South Carolina team is one Beyoncé would be proud of. Another No. 1 ranked team, these Gamecocks, are on their way to their fifth straight NCAA Final Four. Marking the fourth time these two teams meet this season, South Carolina is moving on to face the Texas Longhorns on April 4th. After reporting that she just signed to stay with the Gamecocks until 2030, we want all the Coach Dawn Staley content.

UCLA Bruins

Watch out for these deadly three point shooters, the Bruins are on their way to their first ever Final Four. After defeating LSU 72-65, Gabriela Jaquez hit the game winning shot and said afterward, “I just don't even have words, just so proud”. The Bruins are set to play UConn on Friday, and we cannot wait to see this UCLA team shine. They deserve it.

Texas Longhorns

For the FIRST TIME in 22 years, the Texas Longhorns are headed back to the Final Four! In a tear-jerking win, the Longhorns conquered all odds and ended up on top, beating the TCU Horned Frogs 58-47. No.1 ranked in their region, Texas is playing against South Carolina again, and we are pumped…maybe a Matthew McConaughey sighting? An emotional Longhorns coach, Vic Schaefer, told a reporter after the game, “I know I’m not their world, but they are my world.” Talk about heartfelt.

UConn Huskies

It is the Paige Bueckers show, ladies and gentlemen! With an outstanding performance this past weekend, scoring a massive 40 points in the Elite 8 game against Oklahoma, the Huskies clinched their spot in this year's Final Four. Scoring 31 points in Monday night's game, it’s true… she really is Paige “Buckets.” Beating the JuJu Watkins-less USC Trojans 78-61, we are set to see these No. 2 ranked Huskies up against UCLA on Friday.

Men’s Final Four

Houston Cougars

In a tight game between the University of Houston and the University of Tennessee, the Cougars came out victorious and are heading into their 7th Final Four. Emmanuel Sharp and L.J. Cryer were the leading scorers for the team, sending them to their first Final Four since 2021. Beating the Volunteers 69-50, Houston broke their two-year drought of being eliminated in the Sweet 16 and now has another shot at the national title. The Cougars are set to face off against Duke on April 5th.

Florida Gators

Yet another No. 1 ranked team competing for the title, the Florida Gators are heading to the Final Four. What seemed like an improbable celebration just mere minutes from the end of the game, the Gators’ Walter Clayton Jr. scored two 3-pointers late in the game to secure their spot over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Winning 84-79, Florida is up against Auburn in the semi-finals on April 5th. The Gators won back to back national titles in 2006 and 2007, and this Final Four will mark their 6th appearance.

Duke Blue Devils

We are so ready for more Cooper Flagg content as he and the Duke Blue Devils head into the Final Four. Steam rolling over No. 2 ranked Alabama, Duke came out victorious with a 85-65 final. Marking their 18th Final Four appearance, Duke really did tame the Tide. Freshman Cooper Flagg is the guy to watch as Duke is set to face off against the Houston Cougars, and we are hoping for many more dunks.

Auburn Tigers

On Sunday, No. 1 ranked Auburn defeated the Michigan State Spartans in a 70-64 final. Advancing to the Final Four for the second time in franchise history, these Tigers are ready to show their stripes. With their top scorer, Johni Broome, leaving the game with an elbow injury, fans were a little worried. But to no one’s surprise, he returned to the game after more than five minutes in the locker room– hitting a three-pointer to give his team the lead. Auburn will be facing the Florida Gators on Saturday.
