Winners of the Weekend: A Sportsish Recap

A champion-filled weekend deserves its own recap! From winning on the court, the field, and in our hearts, let's talk about all the big wins over the weekend.

Madison Keys Wins Her FIRST Grand Slam!

Let’s go, girl! Our very own American sweetheart, Madison Keys, took home the women’s singles trophy at the Australian Open on Saturday. On her way to the top, she beat No. 2 ranked Iga Świątek in the semi-final and then conquered No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a finals showdown. Making this her first-ever Grand Slam win, Madison has cemented her name in the tennis world, and is one to look out for in coming tournaments!

Jannik Sinner Brings Home the Trophy

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, who warmed our hearts with this photo of him cuddling a kangaroo, is now the men’s singles Australian Open champion! Jannik beat out our favorite guy, Ben Shelton, in the semi-finals, but honestly, we are so happy for this amazing player. At only 23 years old, we will be seeing a lot of Jannik in future tournaments. A well-deserved win for a very deserving guy!

Fly, Eagles, Fly

The Philadelphia Eagles have shoved their way into another Super Bowl appearance! In a high-scoring matchup against the Washington Commanders, the Eagles once again came out on top. Scoring eight touchdowns in Sunday’s game, these birds showed they are not a team to be messed with. Using their infamous “brotherly shove”, Jalen Hurts led his team to a massive 55-23 win--the most points scored in a championship game ever. We will be seeing this menacing team in New Orleans!

Saquon Barkley, a phenomenal dad and athlete, led the team in touchdowns, scoring three throughout the game--the first one was for a whopping 60 yards! He is surely on his revenge tour after signing to Philly from the New York Giants. We are so proud of this amazing running back!

It wouldn’t be right if we did not talk about the game rookie Jayden Daniels and the Commanders played. Passing for nearly 260 yards, Daniels proved that he deserved to be in this game. With a really cool mom and a long career ahead of him, Jayden is a powerhouse to look out for next season! He even showed off his dance moves after scoring a rushing touchdown. We will miss seeing him this off-season.

Kansas City on the Road to a Three-Peat

Josh Allen vs Chiefs (Getty Images)

In a close win, the Kansas City Chiefs are headed to their third Super Bowl and looking to make history! In a very tight game with their rivals the Buffalo Bills, Patrick Mahomes once again brought his team out on top. Throwing for 245 yards and 1 rushing touchdown, Patrick now gets the chance to take the Chiefs into a potentially historic win by becoming the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row. We can’t wait to see Kansas City take on Philly in a few weeks!

Taylor Swift was spotted during the post-game on the field supporting her man. Next to his wonderful mother, Donna Kelce, Taylor clapped and cheered as Travis did what Travis does best, hype up the crowd!

We do need to take a moment to appreciate the game that the Bills played. As a strong team, they proved themselves every play of the game, with our #1 guy Josh Allen putting up a fight. In the running for MVP, Josh passed for almost 240 yards and carried himself with class throughout the whole game. Although we are very sad to see another Super Bowl without Josh Allen, he played his best, and we are so proud. Hopefully, he has a relaxing and exciting off-season, and maybe gets married to Hailee Steinfeld?

SZA to Perform with Kendrick Lamar at Super Bowl

Kendrick Lamar & SZA (Apple Music/Youtube)

The biggest win of this weekend? It has been announced that SZA will be performing with Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl! Since releasing an album titled GNX in November of 2024, Kendrick featured SZA multiple times, and soon after the pair announced they would be going on tour. Now, if you weren’t fortunate enough to get tickets for the tour, they are giving everyone a sneak peek of their set list via a massive Super Bowl performance
