5 Spring Break Spots from Our Favorite Athletes' Home States

Calling all spring breakers! The time is almost here to get away from the stress of school and all of its inevitable exams. Choosing where to spend your spring break can be a hard decision, but don’t worry, we built a list of the five best vacation spots based on some powerhouse women’s hometowns. Let’s take a look at the must-see locations.

5. Florida: Coco Gauff

After moving back to her parent's hometown of Delray Beach, Florida, Coco Gauff is one of the many athletes who call the Sunshine State home. Coco is best known for winning the U.S. Open in 2023 and being the highest-paid female athlete of 2024. She has surely made her hometown proud.

With all the sun and must-see locations like Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida is the perfect place to party it up for your spring break. Filled with blue skies and even bluer water, an escape to this southern state sounds like the perfect way to get your mind off all the stress of school.

4. South Carolina: A’ja Wilson

Home to one of Time's 2025 Women of the Year, South Carolina is the place to be. A'ja Wilson, a professional basketball player for the Las Vegas Aces, grew up in Columbia, the capital city of South Carolina. Attending the University of South Carolina and playing basketball for the Gamecocks, A’ja stuck around her beautiful state before turning pro.

Filled with sandy beaches and spring break hot spots like Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is one of the calmer locations to spend your vacation. Hilton Head Island, located right off the coast, has plenty of places for you to golf or cycle. Kick back and relax with a good book or some wine, and book a trip to South Carolina to achieve the relaxation of your dreams.

3. California: Billie Jean King

Arguably one of the best women’s tennis players of all time, Billie Jean King was born in Long Beach, California, and took the world by storm. Not only was King the former No. 1 ranked female tennis player, but she was an advocate for social justice and women’s equality in sports. In total, Billie Jean won 39 Grand Slam titles throughout her career and is one of California’s most famous athletes.

From the shores of Malibu to the star-studded streets of Los Angeles, California has many places for your next getaway. Or if hiking is more of your speed, Joshua Tree National Park is perfect for you. The great state of California has so many spring break destinations it’s hard to choose.

2. New York: Kate Douglass

A world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, New Yorker Kate Douglass is well-known in the swimming and sports world for her athleticism and grace. Kate won two gold medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics—the 200m breaststroke and 4x100m women’s relay. If the East Coast is more your vibe, New York is the place for you.

Filled to the brim with all the best places to shop and eat, this concrete jungle (thanks, Alicia Keys) has something for everyone. Although it might not have the warmest weather, New York should be on your list of must-go travel places. Whether you want to spend time in Brooklyn or in Times Square, NYC is a city where dreams are made.

1. Alabama: Mia Hamm

Finishing out strong with another popular spring break location, former USA soccer player and Alabama native, Mia Hamm would tell you that the Gulf Coast is the right spot. The two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup winner grew up in Selma, Alabama, and truthfully became the first international star in women’s soccer.

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, popular hot spots for spring break, are great places to end your semester. Sandy beaches and a sunny sky will make you forget all about that one exam that maybe didn’t go so well. Soak up the sun and book a trip to see all Alabama has to offer.
