College Football Definitions

CFB

(NOUN)

A weekly ritual for current college students and former alumni who can’t leave their school pride behind. Weekly activities include include near heart attacks, tailgating, and yelling at refs who can’t hear you.

College Gameday

(NOUN)

A mildly unhinged show on television attempting to preview the upcoming football game in a sea of rowdy tailgating students with funny signs.

CFB Conferences

(NOUN)

The cliques of the CFB world. Playing each other regularly gives these groups their own style, mini-rivalries and drama. (P.S. Rip PAC-12)

Marcus Freeman

(NOUN)

The head coach of Notre Dame and a damn good reason to watch college football.

Deion Sanders

(NOUN)

Sunglass king, motivational speaker and also the head coach of the CU Buffs. Occasionally rocks a Cowboy hat and gets into petty arguments.

Heisman Trophy

(NOUN)

The football equivalent of getting crowned Miss America—only with more touchdowns and fewer tiaras. The best player of the season wins a fierce little statue of a guy striking a pose and bragging credits for life. Past winners include Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson and and Tim Tebow.

Roll Tide

(NOUN)

The signature phrase of any Alabama fan that is omnipresent in their vocabulary, but particularly during football season. Basically Alabama-speak for "Hello” and "Go-Team” rolled into one.

Bowl Game

(NOUN)

Basically the end of the year party for the season but not everyone earns one. Some parties are more prestigious than others, but all have cute little themes such as roses, poptarts or even chick-fil-a. Most are held in sunny locations, prompting fans to scream “ROADTRIP!”

Rivalry Game

(NOUN)

Cardi B. vs. Nicki. Lauren vs. Heidi. Taylor vs. Kimye. We love a good rivalry and college football history has given us more than its fair share. If you watch for the drama, here are the fiercest rivalries in the game:

A CFB QUEEN aka the first woman to play a position other than kicker in an NCAA Football game, at any level. She accomplished this last year in the 2023 season and played safety for Shenandoah University.
